Living Where Others Vacation – Naples, FL – Breakfast

20151024_105142 (576x1024)When asked about where I moved from in the US, it seems weird to tell people that it was Naples, Florida, since my husband and I were only there for about 18 months and the 2 of us were there for a different 18 months.   We did have a nice time there and having lived in very non-touristy places like, Houston, Atlanta and Kansas City, it was interesting to live in a place where others vacationed.   This came back to me again as I sat next to a lovely lady at an event yesterday in Australia that is spending 6 weeks in Naples, Florida and asked for some recommendations.  This is worth a few blogs posts, so here are the Breakfast recommendations.  Many of these places also serve lunch until 3, but only a couple have dinner options.

Blueberry’s has excellent breakfast, good prices and is pretty much always packed.  They have a great variety and choices and were good with dining in a party of 1 to a party of 6.

Peace, Love and Little Donuts

If you can only stop at one spot in Naples, this has to be it.  This tiny shop with a white VW beetle out front is one of the cutest places with the cutest little donuts.  My favorite flavors were the Saigon Cinnamon, the Samoa and the Maple Bacon.  Everyone has their own favorite and since they are tiny, you don’t have to make a hard choice and can get a few of each to share.  And for my Melbournian friends, you will actually enjoy the coffee here.

Sunburst Cafe

Sunburst Cafe is hidden in a shopping center, but when the see the line inside, you know that it is good.  They have huge muffins, good omelettes and scrambles and fun names for fancy coffees.  I would get the decaf iced coffee with skim milk – known there as the “Why, Bother”.  And I never went wrong with Sunburst scramble.

Lulu B’s Grill

True diner food, with the appropriate level of purple kitsch. Highly recommend the breakfast burrito, the homemade salsa is awesome!  The Lulu Belle and Power Bowl were also favorites of those who came to visit.

Honorable Mentions – Joe’s Diner and Patric’s Kitchen

IMG_2086 (1024x1024)Joe’s Diner (http://www.joesdiners.com/ ) – is one of the local institutions in Naples. They are packed and busy and have a good variety of both breakfast and lunch food.   It looks like they just started serving dinner.

Patric’s Kitchen (http://www.patricskitchen.net/) is a great option for those looking for paleo, gluten-free or have dietary restrictions.  Their specials board is always worth checking out.
